Global Mobility Tax Manager (Finance and Records Department)

This position is for a Tax Manager role with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The position provides a range of tax services to support the church and its expatriate employees and volunteers in 70+ countries. The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of global mobility tax principles and will have been exposed to a variety of tax matters across multiple jurisdictions. The role requires the ability to address and resolve issues not previously encountered.
This role offers the opportunity to be part of a team of tax professionals who are committed to advancing the mission of the church. This role does not have any direct reports.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review US income tax returns and tax equalization calculations for US individual taxpayers, including outbound and inbound expatriates and nonresident aliens
Work with church employees and with external tax preparers to support non-US tax planning and compliance for the churchs mobile workforce
Prepare applications for totalization certificates, Individual Tax Identification Numbers, and US tax residency certificates
Conduct US entry and exit tax briefings with assignees
Provide support to external tax preparers and legal advisors and to worldwide payroll and HR employees
Identify and support resolution of cross border tax issues concerning treaties, shadow payroll, frequent business travelers, income sourcing, foreign tax credits, taxable benefits, social security totalization, trailing liabilities, immigration, etc.
Perform research and analysis regarding US individual taxation using the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, court opinions, and other tax authorities
Identify tax compliance gaps and areas of exposure
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university
CPA license, Enrolled Agent credential, or admission to a state bar
Tax preparation and consulting experience with a public accounting firm
Eight years of related professional work experience
Proficient use of technology including CCH ProSystem or similar tax preparation software, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and tax research services (BNA, CCH, LexisNexis, etc.)
Effective written and spoken communication skills and the ability to effectively explain complex tax issues and recommendations to individuals with varying levels of tax expertise and across geographic boundaries and cultures
Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines
Preferred
Advanced degree with an emphasis in taxation
Experience with global mobility and services provided to outbound and inbound expatriates, dual-residency individuals, and resident and nonresident aliens
IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA)
Experience with bilateral income tax treaties and totalization agreements
Proficient Spanish language skills in a business setting
