A moderator's job is to guide discussions and interactions to ensure that content is appropriate and follows community rules. Moderators can work in many industries and settings, including online, at events, and in healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Provide discussion topics:
- Introduce topics and questions for discussion
- Encourage participation:
- Ask questions, encourage participants to share, and facilitate audience and speaker discussion
- Remove inappropriate content:
- Remove unrelated, inappropriate, or illegal content
- Answer questions:
- Respond to questions from participants
- Set boundaries:
- Define group rules and boundaries
- Update platform:
- Manage the platform and update it as needed
Types of moderators
- Social media moderators
- Oversee conversations on social media to ensure users follow community guidelines
- Content moderators
- Manage user-generated content to ensure it's free of errors, scams, and illegal or copyrighted content
- Discussion moderators
- Lead discussions and debates, often by taking calls from the audience and using those calls to ask questions of guests
Skills
