Job Description:

The Leave Associate supports our Flight Attendants by ensuring accurate and successful processing of Company leaves and administering the Flight Attendant Attendance policy per the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). They deliver Southwest Hospitality with each interaction and strive to provide timely and accurate responses to our Customers. Additionally, this Associate is the subject matter expert for our Flight Attendants, the Union, Inflight Base Leaders, Labor Relations, General Council, and other legal entities. The Leave Associate is an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills who is excited to support impactful initiatives that drive the future of Southwest.

    Additional Details:
  • This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for training, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is a limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington, Wyoming, and Puerto Rico.

    Responsibilities
  • Support Flight Attendants through various phases related to Company leaves of absence including medical leave, maternity leave, on the job injury, jury duty, state leaves and FMLA
  • Communicate with Flight Attendants via telephone, email, and Crew Web Access messages regarding Company leaves and attendance
  • Navigate and work in multiple computer packages/programs, including but not limited to Pullsheets, Quickbase, Docuware, Crew Web Access, and Salesforce
  • Monitor, administer, and record all documentation related to Company approved leaves within contractual timelines
  • Confirm medical documentation is compliant with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) by reviewing and processing medical documentation regarding all medical leaves, maternity leaves, and on the job injuries
  • Apply the CBA language in order to ensure the Company complies with Workers Compensation procedures
  • Ensure the accuracy of Flight Attendant attendance points and discipline letters per the CBA and communicate with Inflight Operations Base Leadership
  • Obtain and navigate third party reporting systems to obtain information, communicate and support the process of on the job injury claims, by identifying restrictions and limitations as they pertain to guidelines
  • Act as the liaison between the Flight Attendant and Company administrators by preparing, distributing, and documenting all appropriate FMLA paperwork as required by law and the federal guidelines of FMLA
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to navigate or Experience using Microsoft Suite including the ability to type and/or use computer keyboard with sufficient speed to meet deadlines and have proficient personal computer skills
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and ability to work well with others as part of a Team
  • Ability to navigate online resources to define medical terminology
  • Skilled in strong written communication and organization in order to effectively communicate verbally by telephone and face to face with Internal and External Customers
  • Ability to read and adhere to detailed procedures, collective bargaining agreements and governmental regulations
  • Ability to perform detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy and minimal supervision
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints to resolve administrative tasks and multiple projects in a limited space with constant interruptions
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with multiple departments
  • Knowledge of various state, local and contract laws
  • Ability to support Flight Attendants by answering questions via phone calls and manage sensitive events with compassion and discretion
    Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
    Experience
  • Entry-level experience, developing skills and knowledge in:
  • Administering rules and guidelines to Employee leaves of absence
  • Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA)
  • Preferred: Experience with CSS, Docuware, Pullsheets, and Workday
    Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
    Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to meet contractual and payroll deadlines
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours as necessary
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $48,500.00 per year to $53,900.00 per

year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual

contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the

discretion of the company.
