Short Form Strategist (YouTube Shorts & Social Media)
Posted 2025-06-02Role Overview
We are seeking a Short Form Content Strategist to drive the content strategy and production of short-form videos for the Joshua Weissman YouTube team. In this role, you will own the end-to-end pipeline for short-form content on YouTube Shorts (primary), as well as TikTok and Instagram Reels. It’s a unique opportunity to work on one of the world’s top food creators on all platforms – Joshua Weissman’s channel boasts over 10 million subscribers – and help shape the next phase of our social video content. If you are highly creative, organized, and fluent in short-form video trends, memes and editing styles, you’ll thrive in our fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. Bonus if you have a genuine interest in cooking or food content and a familiarity with Joshua Weissman’s content style and audience.
- You’ll be responsible for pitching, scripting, filming, and editing compelling short videos that captivate algorithm-driven audiences. Your work will focus on maximizing viewer engagement – crafting strong hooks, energetic pacing, and clever/humorous edits that still deliver value and keep viewers watching. By owning and streamlining the short-form pipeline, you’ll ensure a steady output of content without requiring Joshua to manage the day-to-day process. This role offers significant creative freedom to experiment with ideas and formats, all while contributing to a channel with a strong growth trajectory and massive audience reach.Key Responsibilities
- Short-Form Content Strategy: Develop and implement a short-form video strategy that aligns with Joshua’s brand and growth goals. Plan a content calendar that stands independently while also complementing our long-form content.
- Ideation & Scripting: Continuously brainstorm and pitch creative video ideas (from trends, challenges, to repurposed moments). Draft short scripts or outlines with catchy hooks and story flow to maximize viewer retention.
- Production Coordination: Work with the production and culinary team to schedule and coordinate shoots or content capture with minimal disruption to long-form productions. Prep clear concepts and shot lists to ensure Joshua’s involvement on set is efficient.
- Editing & Post-Production: Edit and produce short videos (15–60 seconds) in vertical format, applying high-quality post-production: tight cuts, subtitles/captions, graphics, music, and sound effects as needed. Optimize each video for algorithmic performance.
- Cross-Platform Adaptation: Adapt and reformat content for each platform to ensure content feels native to each audience.
- Analytics & Optimization: Track key metrics and use data to identify what’s working and refine future content. You approach content creation with both creativity and a data-informed mentality – testing, learning, and optimizing.
- Trend Scouting: Stay up-to-date with the latest short-form trends, memes, and algorithm changes. Quickly capitalize on trending sounds, hashtags, and challenges in the food/cooking space. Proactively suggest new formats or series that could go viral.
- Collaboration & Workflow: Collaborate with Joshua and the production/long-form editing team to integrate short-form production into our overall workflow. Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in digital content creation, social media video production, or a similar content strategist/editor role. Proven track record of conceptualizing, producing and editing successful short-form videos (YouTube Shorts, TikToks, Reels) with high engagement or virality.
- Editing Skills: Advanced skills in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro). Ability to perform all aspects of post-production independently – from cutting and color-correcting footage to adding text, music, and effects optimized for mobile viewing. (Experience with motion graphics or After Effects is a plus.)
- Highly Organized: Excellent project management skills to juggle multiple videos in various stages (planning, editing, revisions). Able to maintain an organized content calendar and meet consistent posting deadlines. Self-driven and reliable, especially in a remote work environment.
- Collaborative Attitude: Strong communication and teamwork skills. Able to take direction and also voice your ideas clearly. Experience working with on-camera talent or production teams is helpful. You can incorporate feedback and work towards a shared vision.
