This means that integrity, adherence to our ethical standards, and compliance with legal obligations are fundamental responsibilities for every employee at NPR.INTRO TO POSITIONIn this role, you will work on project teams to build out and maintain a comprehensive suite of automated tests to allow frequent releases of various software products with a high level of confidence. These tests will drive internal- and external-facing web applications and focus on workflows and experiences related to publishing web content, distribution, and podcasting and audio processing. In addition, you'll participate in other quality assurance related activities as needed. Successful applicants will be able to positively interact with all disciplines in our team: product and interaction designers, developers, and product owners.This role will join a team of NPR colleagues focused on facilitating the growth of new known users, audience engagement and donor conversion/retention. You will be deeply involved in testing a wide array of product features in development across audience experiences, including newsletters, engagement initiatives, payments, internal systems, operations and more. The ideal candidate can work seamlessly across a variety of clients (web, mobile, e-mail etc.). They will have the ability to understand the varied technical layers that enable product experiences, and will proactively identify and implement testing mechanisms to ensure the operational integrity of those end-to-end experiences.This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with NABET-CWA DMU.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and maintain end-to-end automated tests for web-based applications and services
- Work with product owners and the software development manager to create a roadmap for maximizing automated test coverage
- Research and implement solutions / tools to check and verify user donation workflows
- Assist with ancillary quality assurance related tasks as a part of achieving release readiness
- Create tools and scripts to aid in the efficiency of test setup, preparation, and execution
- Communicate and collaborate closely with developers, designers, and product owners to develop the fullest possible understanding of the software and address issues that arise
- Three years experience as a Test Engineer, QA Engineer, Software Developer, or otherwise equivalent position
- Basic proficiency in any programming language (e.g. JavaScript, PHP, Java, etc.)
- Experience directly interacting with API's (e.g. using tools such as Postman)
- Intermediate knowledge of writing functional or UI tests in any framework (e.g. Nightwatch, JUnit, Mocha, Cucumber, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of the Linux command line
- Familiarity with Git (or similar Version Control System)
- Proven track record of project execution in an Agile environment with rapid release cycles
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Payment process and/or donation testing experience
- An interest in the mission of NPR and / or public media or not-for-profit work
- Background with automating tests on mobile platforms
- Remote Permitted: This is a remote permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.
- This is a full time, exempt position.
Expected salary: $102868.47 - 109133.16 per year
